What We Do

Classes
Every class is different as each teacher develops their own style of work which is then tailored to suit the needs of the various class members. This diversity and adaptability is the KFA's strength - we have so much to offer so many people.

Class displays
Sometimes a class will be invited to perform a piece of classwork at an event - usually a Berkshire KFA event but sometimes at a Regional KFA one. If the teacher and class accept, the teacher will coach the class in a suitable routine, which they will be perfectly capable of performing.
This is an excellent opportunity for the teacher and members to show the type of work they do in class and helps to build self-confidence - there is no better self-confidemce booster than the sound of applause!

Berkshire summer classes
Every year the Berkshire Committee arrange Summer Classes at venues in Berkshire and invite teachers to take them. The format at each venue is "A DIFFERENT TEACHER AND NEW WORK EVERY WEEK". Many classes close down for the summer so this enables class members to "keep on going" if they wish. It is also an opportunity for members to work with a range of teachers offering different styles of work.

Berkshire rallies/events
Every year the Berkshire Committee organise rallies for anyone to attend - not just KFA members.
In May a rally always forms part of the Keep Fit activities put on in conjunction with the AGM. At least one other rally is also organised during the year.
What is "a Keep Fit rally"?

  • It is an occasion when Keep Fitters from all over Berkshire get together to work in one big group. The Berkshire Committee invite one or more teachers to teach the group.
  • The Berkshire County Display Team and classes are usually asked to perform at these events.
  • It is a great opportunity to socialise, make new friends and meet old ones.
  • Some people come along just to sit, watch, be entertained and socialise.
  • Refreshments and a raffle stall are always on hand and publicity boards on display.
  • Merchandise is often available for browsing and purchase.
  • Sometimes these events are used to raise money for charity.

Berkshire County Display Teams
Berkshire teachers are invited by the Committee to be Producers of the Berkshire County Display Team.
An audition is usually held for Berkshire KFA members to try to secure a place in that Team. The Team is then trained by that Producer to perform at Berkshire and Regional KFA events. They also represent Berkshire KFA at non KFA organised events.
It is a great honour to be asked to be a Producer which provides the teacher with the opportunity to be very creative and work at a more advanced level.
For Team members it is a wonderful opportunity and achievement to learn and perfect a choreographed routine and work at a higher standard than usually required within classes.

Teachers
Teachers are required to attend a minimum number of hours of refresher/additional training (Continuing Professional Development) during every three year period A few of these sessions are also open to class members to attend. This gives class members the opportunity to work at a more advanced level, experience things from a teacher's point of view and may encourage class members to become KFA teachers.
In addition to all the training sessions they attend and all the classes they teach, teachers often audition alongside class members to take part in the County and Regional Display Teams.
From time to time the Berkshire Committee will request a Teachers Display Team and invite one of the teachers to be the Producer. The Producer will train the team to perform at Berkshire KFA events and/or Regional events.
